Did you know the way you see yourself determines how well you perform? Whether in sports, business, or life, your self-concept can make or break you.

I am coach Soul, welcome to our performance edge weekly wisdom, Where Spirit Drives Performance

Today, we’re talking about self-concept and why it’s the secret weapon—or silent killer—of your performance.

So, In The first part, we are going to talk about the cycle self-concept and high performance,

and second, how self-doubt is reflected in underperformance.

Let’s dive in,

So, it’s important to quickly frame the self-concept idea.

Which is how you see yourself, your abilities, and your potential. Which is especially important to understand.

What it is the image you have of yourself?

So, let’s look at the cycle of self-concept and high performance.

Healthy self-concept leads to confidence which leads you to act, and action produces results which is the measure of your performance which reinforces on the other side your self-concept.

That’s the secret weapon and to illustrate,

Example: Two athletes with the same skills—one believes he’s a winner, and the other doubts themselves. Guess who performs better?

It might seems self-evident, but I want to remind ourselves so that we can self-check when it’s game time if you are an athlete or an executive or business owner self-doubting- The bottom line is it has an Impact on Performance-

“If you believe in yourself, you take risks, push harder, and recover from failure faster.”

Now let’s pivot to the second part, if your self-concept has some self-doubt, you will most likely experience underperformance: the reality is that.

If you doubt yourself, you will be prone to hesitate, to overthink, and of course underperform under pressure.

Now the way you turn this around in three simple steps.

Reframe your self-image, instead of being stressed during the pressure moments, tell yourself how you thrive during the critical moments, under pressure!

The second thing is to build on successes, by celebrating small Wins: Build confidence by tracking progress, not just big results.

And finally, use the visualize success: Your brain believes what you repeatedly see—so see yourself winning.
